Welcome to The Mesothelioma Hotline Website

Asbestos

The disease Mesothelioma is one of the deadliest diseases ever to have been discovered.

Medically speaking, the word Mesothelioma  means a tumor that is likely to transform into a fast proliferating cancer  which affects the mesothelial cells.  These cells form the protective thin covering over the organs like heart, lungs and abdomen.

The main cause of mesothelioma has been associated with the prolonged exposure to asbestos. Most of the patients that have been diagnosed with the disease, had acquired the disease because of prolonged exposure to asbestos.  Most people that have been diagnosed with mesothelioma have worked in industries or places where asbestos was used.  Some cases however,  have indicated second hand exposure to asbestos such as family members that were possibly exposed to asbestos fibers brought home on clothing and similar situations.

One of the worse things about this  disease is the fact that it generally gets detected many years after initial exposure and also mostly in the last stages. This late diagnosis drastically reduces the chances of the individual’s recovery. The latency period between the time of initial asbestos exposure and the onset of mesothelioma can be between up to 40 years.

It is very important that people who are likely to have been exposed to asbestos particles should be scanned regularly for any symptoms of mesothelioma or other asbestos related diseases.

Treatment for mesothelioma has improved over recent years, however it is very expensive, and even with technology improving, mesothelioma patients rarely survive more than five years after diagnosis.

If you or a family member have been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos related disease such as asbestosis or lung cancer, you should know your legal rights.  With so many advertisements on television, radio, the internet, and in printed publications, it is very confusing on who to contact concerning your legal rights.  That is the reason we developed The Mesothelioma Hotline. If you would like to consult at attorney about your rights concerning mesothelioma, click the "Finding An Attorney" link at the left side of this website for information on attorneys in your state that are experienced in mesothelioma and asbestos related issues.
